Skin Care and Dermatology

Healthy Skin, Happy Pets

Expert Veterinary Dermatology at Spring Vets Papamoa

Skin problems are one of the most common reasons pets visit the vet. Itching, redness, hair loss, ear infections, and recurring skin irritation can be uncomfortable for your pet and frustrating for owners.

At Spring Vets Papamoa, we take a thorough and methodical approach to diagnosing and managing skin conditions in both dogs and cats. Skin issues can have many underlying causes – including allergies, infections, parasites, hormonal conditions, or environmental factors – so careful investigation is important to achieve lasting relief.

We provide comprehensive dermatology consultations, diagnostic testing, and personalised treatment plans to help restore your pet’s skin health and comfort. Our goal is not just to treat the symptoms, but to identify and manage the underlying cause whenever possible.

With the right care and ongoing support, most skin conditions can be successfully managed, helping your pet live a happier, more comfortable life.

Experienced Veterinary Dermatology Care

Working Together for Better Skin Care

Skin conditions can sometimes be complex and require a more detailed approach to reach an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. At Spring Vets Papamoa, both of our veterinarians have a strong interest in dermatology and are committed to ongoing education in this area.

Dione Bryers is currently undertaking further training toward achieving a UK Certificate in Small Animal Dermatology, allowing us to continue expanding the level of dermatology care available to pets in our community.

Cherie McLeod has completed a postgraduate dermatology course through Massey University, developing advanced knowledge in the diagnosis and management of common and complex skin conditions in dogs and cats.

We often collaborate closely on dermatology cases within the clinic – because two heads are often better than one when working through tricky skin problems. For more complicated or unusual cases, we are also able to seek advice from specialist veterinary dermatologists to ensure pets receive the best possible care.

Our aim is always to provide thorough investigation, clear treatment plans, and ongoing support to help pets achieve long-term comfort and healthier skin.

Our Dermatology Services

Skin Testing and Diagnosis

Accurate diagnosis is the first step to successfully treating skin problems. We use a range of simple in-clinic tests, including skin and ear cytology and parasite checks, to help identify the underlying cause of your pet’s skin condition.

Allergy Investigation and Management

Allergies are a common cause of ongoing itching and skin irritation in dogs and cats and are usually lifelong conditions rather than something that can be cured. Our aim is to develop a personalised treatment plan to manage your pet’s allergies long term, keeping them comfortable while minimising the need for medication whenever possible.

Ear and Skin Infection Treatment

Bacterial and yeast infections often occur alongside underlying skin disease and can cause significant discomfort. We provide thorough examination, diagnostic testing, and targeted treatments to help resolve infections and prevent them from recurring.
